Curtiss-Wright Expands Aerospace Sensor Product Family with Addition of Weed Instrument Temperature Sensor Solutions for Next-Generation Aircraft Engine and Fuel Systems

June 16, 2025

Weed Instrument’s sensors business includes aerospace temperature sensors using proprietary platinum Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) technology. Temperature sensors are used throughout modern aircraft, particularly in engines, fuel systems and air management systems. The trend for engines is to improve performance and efficiency through increasingly higher levels of control in engine management systems, where accurate and reliable temperature sensing is all the more critical for new aircraft platforms.

"As a long-standing leading supplier of sensor technology for the commercial aviation and defense aerospace markets, we are pleased to announce the recent addition of the Weed Instrument family of aerospace temperature sensors to our product offering, which both expands our market reach and the capabilities we are able to offer to our customers,” said Jeff Troutner, Vice President and General Manager, of Curtiss-Wright’s Sensors & Actuation Division. “The line of Weed Instrument aerospace temperature sensors complements and is a great addition to our existing range of position, proximity and speed sensor products, further expanding our aerospace solutions portfolio.”

Through its predecessor companies, Ultra Energy became a leading manufacturer of temperature and pressure sensors in the late-1960s. Today, its diverse portfolio includes highly accurate temperature and pressure sensors and is a key supplier to commercial engine programs and defense platforms. The Ultra Energy business operates within Curtiss-Wright's Naval & Power segment.
