Proximity and Speed Sensors

Solutions to Improve Aircraft Efficiency

We can provide new bespoke proximity sensors selected from a number of technologies to suit application requirements or offer replacement designs for incumbent systems.

Our proximity sensors are typically used for detecting open and closed positions of devices such as doors, landing gear and flight control surfaces. They are usually two-piece devices; one part is attached to the moving part (the target), and the other is applied to the static part.

There are many proximity sensors including inductive, capacitive, photoelectric, electromagnetic, and ultrasonic; each suited to specific applications and environments.

The proximity sensor typically emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation (infrared, for instance), and looks for changes in the field or return signal. The object being sensed is referred to as the target.

There are typically over 100 proximity sensors to be found on a large commercial aircraft.
